There are some things that may cause damage to the gut lining over time such as multiple rounds of antibiotics, years of being on birth control or simply eating the Standard American Diet for too long. This can cause leaky gut or gut dysbiosis. Most americans have some form of this. A leaky gut is where bad bacteria outweighs the good bacteria. The bad bacteria in the gut create a divide in the lining of the somach allowing small particles of food to escape into the blood stream and cause the immune system to start attacking itself (auto-immune). Whereas when good bacteria are allowed to grow and thrive they create a barrier in the lining which allows nutrients to be absorbed rather than escape.
Studies have shown that engaging in a 24 hour fast can start a process of reversing leaky gut and/or gut dysbiosis by repairing Intestinal stem cells.

A few ways that can help you to train your body to get to a 24 hour fast
Find your why and remind yourself when your stomach starts to growl.
Know that fasting is a hormetic stresser to the body which means it will be uncomfortable and a little bit hard. The only way to make the body stronger or start healing is to force it to adapt to change.
Start with Intermittent fasting, shorten your eating window incrementally before you try to go 24 hours. Such as 12/12, 13/11, 14/10, 15/9, 16/8......
Try cyclical fasting either with your cycle or the moon cycle for at least one month. Contact me for more information on my fasting lifestyle group.
Tips and Tricks for success
Join a group and do the fast with them. Studies show people who join support groups are more successful in whatever they are trying to accomplish.
Before you try, slowly cut back on your one most toxic food source for a week or more.
Start adding in foods that will help nourish the body a week or more before. Such as,
probiotic foods or supplements, healthy fats, grass fed proteins.
Finally, replace processed foods with whole foods like fruits and vegetables.
After you complete a 24 hour fast, break that fast with these supporting foods
Bone Broth (beef is best)
Probiotic supplement or foods that are fermented (sauerkraut, kimchi, whole fat yogurts)
Fiber (chia seeds, flax seeds, low GI vegetables and fruits)
Protein (grass-fed is best)
Doing this can extend the healing benefits by up to 72 hours!
